Frequently asked questions
We've provided the answers to some of the most common questions we get asked below.
When are L&C recruiting?
We are expanding rapidly as a business so we recruit many different roles year round. Our intake of Mortgage Advisers and Mortgage Protection Advisers is more frequent than other roles, often every few months.
What hours will I work?
Mortgage Advisers will work core hours of 9.00am – 5.30pm three times a week and 11.30am – 8pm twice a week, as well as one weekend day every fourth weekend (Saturday 9.00am – 5.30pm and Sunday 10.00am – 4.00pm) which is an additional day. Other office based roles will normally require hours of 9.00am - 5:30pm Monday – Friday but this can vary.
What qualifications are required?
The minimum for Advisers is five GCSEs A – C including maths and English and two A Levels (or equivalent, BTEC, NVQ etc.). A degree is desirable but not essential for that also. For a Case Manager role it’s a minimum of 5 A – C GCSEs including maths and English. Other roles may have different requirements but those will be specified on a case by case basis.
Will there be training and what will it involve?
Yes and lots of it. For Advisers, the first few weeks will be spent concentrating on getting you through your CeMAP exam and then about four weeks of ‘on the job’ training to familiarise you with our systems, software, processes and compliance standards. Once you’ve passed probation you can then study for CeMAP 2 & 3. For other roles where you may not need to pass an exam first, the training will be discussed with you prior to joining, but rest assured we won’t throw you in at the deep end without adequate training.
Is there room for career development?
Yes – you can further yourself by achieving qualifications relevant to your role. In some roles, we have a minimum level of qualification we need you to reach whilst you are employed here and will provide you with the support and funding that you need to get that. You can then choose to study further qualifications that are relevant to your role, but not necessarily required by it (such as the DipMAP for Advisers) as part of your annual Continued Personal Development (CPD) plan. You’ll be required to complete a certain amount of CPD per year to keep your skills sharp for the role.Funding of relevant qualifications for other roles can be discussed with managers and will be offered at their discretion. All jobs here are advertised internally so there are lots of opportunities to move within the company.
What about personal development?
We offer a sabbatical policy that enables colleagues to spend time away from work supporting good causes and developing other life skills that will benefit both them and the business. We also encourage our colleagues to get involved in local charities and sponsor their efforts.
What benefits do you offer?
We offer a pension, Permanent Health Insurance (PHI) after one year of service, death in service benefit, and 24 days of annual leave plus a day in lieu for the employee's birthday. There are also lots of local discounts available to L&C employees.
What’s the culture like?
L&C is a dynamic, energetic place where we work hard but have fun. Read our employee testimonials to find out more about what it’s like to work at L&C.
